Cisco Scale Config Generator

Simple Python2 based scale config generator for generating scale configs using a template file for cisco and cisco like devices.

This script currently supports

  • Incrementing Numbers
  • Incrementing IP address
  • Incrementing IPv6 address for whole two quads such as [0000:0000] to [FFFF:FFFF]

Installation

[sargandh:SARGANDH-3QLQC]$ python scale_config.py -h
usage: scale_config.py [-h] -f FILE -c COUNT [-o OUTFILE]

optional arguments:
  -h, --help                      show this help message and exit
  -f FILE, --file FILE            input config file
  -c COUNT, --count COUNT         number of times to scale the configs
  -o OUTFILE, --outfile OUTFILE   output file name for generated configs

Example usage 1

Template file name – config.txt.

Default output config file – config_out.txt.

Example usage 2

Template file name – config2.txt

Increment number by value more than 1 from a starting number to end number

Increment IP address, IPv6 address by value more than one

Linux dhcp client simulation tool

Developed a DHCP client simulation tool sometime back. The tool can be used for testing DHCP server which are part of networking devices such as routers, IP DSLAM, etc.

The tool needs a linux environment with root login since it uses promiscuous sockets for sending and receiving DHCP packets.

Basic usage

Usage: ./dhtest [ options ] -m mac_address
-r, –release # Releases obtained DHCP IP for corresponding MAC
-I, –option50-ip [ IP_address ] # Option 50 IP address on DHCP discover
-o, –option60-vci [ VCI_string ] # Vendor Class Idendifier string
-v, –vlan [ vlan_id ] # VLAN ID. Range(2 – 4094)
-t, –tos [ TOS_value ] # IP header TOS value
-i, –interface [ interface ] # Interface to use. Default eth0
-T, –timeout [ cmd_timeout ] # Command returns within specified timout in seconds
-b, –bind-ip # Listens on the obtained IP. Supported protocols – ARP and ICMP
-k, –bind-timeout [ timeout ] # Listen timout in seconds. Default 3600 seconds
-f, –bcast_flag # Sets broadcast flag on DHCP discover and request
-V, –verbose # Prints DHCP offer and ack details
